Important Updates
Hey everybody, a few updates first. Team applications are now finalized. Due to a few complications, rosters are still being reviewed, but should be released for the public soon. The Group Draw will take place on Saturday, June 15th at 3:00PM EDT at http://twitch.tv/mariokartcentral

The most important announcements to be made today will be changes to the scheduling of this event. Originally we had a goal of having 20 teams partake in the cup. Not only did we reach this number, we actually went a little bit above it. The cup will feature 24 teams instead, and as a result, we need to change up scheduling a little bit because we're going to have way more matches than initially expected. June 22nd will still be one of biggest days for each team, and the group schedule will still be more compact compared to past years. But we're going to open up a few more days to get these group matches finished. I would expect to perhaps have a day where your team needs to play up to 3 matches. We will attempt to make the scheduling as convenient as possible for each team, but please understand that there are many teams from different timezones, so there will be some matches placed in times that may not be what your team requested, and perhaps a few at that. We please ask each team participating to be as flexible as possible for the ease of the tournament. However, if there are any dates below where you expect your team to be completely unable to play, please tell us sooner rather than later so we can put most of your matches on other days. We expect each team to be well organized and ready to play each match on their schedule. For small teams, we advise planning to have your roster make June 22nd a day of priority for being around, and to expect to need to play on the 29th a little as well. Please also note that no matches should ever overlap with MKU, AC, EL, or any other site events. Days with other site tournaments will focus on having minimal cup matches compared to dates dedicated to the cup.

Expected Schedule

June 21 - Group Matches (Few)
June 22 - Group Matches (Very Many)
June 23 - Group Matches (Few)
June 28 - Group Matches (Few)
June 29 - Group Matches (Many)
June 30 - Bracket
July 5 - Bracket
July 6 - Bracket
July 7 - Bracket
July 13 - Bracket
July 14 - Finals

Please note that the weekend of July 5-7 likely won't feature too many matches in order to minimize interference with Japan Expo and Embrace the Change, as some expected bracket teams will have major conflicts there. Again, please contact us if any dates are impossible - please note that this can't be too many dates, but for sure we should be able to exclude you from playing any one in particular, except for perhaps the 22nd.

Cup Format 2019

Groups.png

The Group Draw will seed the top 12 teams from previous years, and place them into groups of 4. One from each group will be in Group A, B, C, and D. The remaining 12 teams will be entered randomly into each group as well. There will be no bye weeks or auto advancements - since we have 24 on the dot, exactly every team will play five group matches in a Round Robin format.

Top 2 from each group will advance to bracket. A new change that will be implemented that there will be no ties allowed in this event, even in group phase. Tiebreakers will be determined by Head to Head, and for any 3 way head to head tiebreakers, the results will be determined by tiebreaker differential. If this is also tied, a tiebreaker match may be played at staff discretion.

Bracket will be played out in double elimination format. In the above graphic you may see where people will start the bracket by group and placement in said group.

We're looking forward to the group draw Saturday and hope everyone enjoys playing the cup this year. We'll admittedly be less focused on streaming this year, and more focused on simply making a convenient schedule for everyone. Good luck to all teams in the cup! Make sure to contact us in the next few days if there are any issues we should know about.

2 out of the 6 teams advance per poul. thats kinds sad that most of the teams practise for only 5 matches in the poul. isnt there a way to get 3-4 into an other bracket lol

We can maybe talk about doing a secondary bracket, but I suppose the catch is that it'll require more scheduling than we initially expected and the original bracket alone could be tough too. It's worth noting that 5 group matches is more than any other cup for teams who haven't made it out yet as well. Perhaps we could maybe run secondary brackets, but the primary one is going to be where all the focus is for any streams.
