Season Finale Format
Staff discussed many ways to run the final season of 200 League. After various different formats were presented and discussed, staff settled on a format that would best hold true to 200L.

Staff decided upon a 7-5-5 format to help balance divisions as best as possible. Over the last couple of seasons, Division 1 has not only become more competitive, but the amount of teams that could be considered Division 1 has grown. Therefore, the appropriate action was to balance Division 1 and allow Divisions 2 and 3 the opportunity to play in as balanced of a format as possible.

The following sections will describe the format in full.

7-Team Single Round Robin
In this system, teams will play in a single round robin system, facing all 6 teams in the division. At one point during the seven matches, each team will have a BYE.

Teams will play 6 matches throughout the season with the Top 4 teams advancing to Semi-Finals. Semi-Finals will be Seed 1 vs. Seed 4, Seed 2 vs. Seed 3 and will be a Best-of-3 match. All regular matches and playoff rules are outlined in the Mario Kart Universal ruleset, which can be found here.

The spoiler here outlines the schedule for the 7-Team Round Robin:

Week 1 (April 26th):
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Match 1
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Match 2
Week 2 (May 3rd):
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Match 3
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Match 4
Week 3 (May 10th):
20 CEST / 2 PM EDT - Match 5
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Match 6
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Match 7
Week 4 (May 17th):
20 CEST / 2 PM EDT - Semi-Final 1
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Semi-Final 2
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Semi-Final 3 (if necessary)
Week 5 (May 31st):
20 CEST / 2 PM EDT - Final 1
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Final 2
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Final 3 (if necessary)

This schedule will lead to some weeks having more matches than others for teams. Please take a look at the schedule to determine what times your wars will be played at.

5-Team Double Round Robin
In this system, teams will play in a double round robin system, facing all 4 teams twice in their division. At two points during the 10 matches, teams will have BYEs.

Teams will play in 8 matches throughout the season with the Top 3 advancing to Semi-Finals. Semi-Finals will be Seed 2 vs. Seed 3 with Seed 1 receiving a BYE. The winner of Semi-Finals will play Seed 1 in a Best-of-3 Finals.

Semi-Finals will also be unique in this format, as instead of a Best-of-3, we are implementing a Best-of-2 system. The way this system works is that a 2-0 automatically advances a team to Finals, but a 1-1 will force a tiebreaker.

If the Semi-Final teams go 1-1, they will face off immediately following Semi-Final 2 in a 4-race GP to determine the winner. The host of this 4-race GP will be Seed 2. The room’s open time must be discussed immediately following Semi-Final 2. After 4 races if the result is tied, teams will then play 1 additional race continuously until one team wins. The results of this match must be shown on a separate table.

This playoff format will still follow the MKU playoff ruleset, which states that a winner of a playoff match must be determined. In other words, a winner cannot be determined by a draw (1-1-0). If a draw happens, players are to follow the MKU playoff ruleset as per usual.

The spoiler here outlines the schedule for the 5-Team Double Round Robin format:

Week 1 (April 26th):
20 CEST / 2 PM EDT - Match 1
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Match 2
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Match 3
Week 2 (May 3rd):
20 CEST / 2 PM EDT - Match 4
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Match 5
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Match 6
Week 3 (May 10th):
20 CEST / 2 PM EDT - Match 7
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Match 8
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Match 9
Week 4 (May 17th):
20 CEST / 2 PM EDT - Match 10
21 CEST / 3 PM EDT - Semi-Final 1
22 CEST / 4 PM EDT - Semi-Final 2
Once Semi-Final 2 has concluded, if matches are tied 1-1, then a tiebreaker 4-race GP must commence immediately after.

We look forward to a great final season of 200 League and wish all teams participating the best of luck!
