Discord: React to the Compass Draw message in #tournament-roles
The compass draw tournament format is a new format that allows every participating team to play at least 4 matches. It contains 8 brackets that are named after directions on a compass (North, South, East, West, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast). In the first round, each team starts in the center of the bracket. The winner of the first round moves east, and the loser moves west. A team will stay in their current bracket if they win a match; if they lose, they will move to the bracket closest to them in a counter-clockwise direction (in Round 2, they move to the closest counter-clockwise cardinal direction; ex. loser of East goes to North. In Round 3, all 8 directions are used; ex. loser of East goes to Northeast, loser of North goes to Northwest). Round 4 is the semifinals of each bracket; the loser will be eliminated from the tournament. The winner of this round will play one last round, acting as the final for that bracket.
Since the tournament requires a specific amount of teams to work, we are capping registrations at 32 entrants.
Final placements are determined by the bracket a team finishes in. The top 4 in each bracket are ranked in this order: East, Northeast, North, Northwest, West, Southwest, South, Southeast. (East winner gets 1st, Northeast winner gets 5th, etc.)
If this is confusing, our bracket for this tournament details exactly how the format works.
