Hello everyone,

We're here today with some exciting news. Since the inception of Mario Kart Central, we have always had in mind the goal of offering the world's largest Mario Kart database. Up until now, we've had tournament history for several dozens of tournaments played by the many members and teams on our site. However, many MK sites have existed before MKCentral, and have hosted their own tournaments. With our original goals in mind, we couldn't simply let this history be forgotten. So, we've dug through all the archives we could find, and started inputting them into our database, thanks to recent developments on the site.

Introducing Historical Tournament Results

Starting today, you'll be able to access results for most FFA tournaments going back to the MK8U era, and team events dating all the way back to the start of MKWii's World Clan League starting in 2008! Although we don't have team roster data from before MKCentral existed, and likely never will for most older tournaments, for team events, you'll be able to see the names of teams, but not their rosters at the time. You'll be able to see the expanded tournament history on player profiles (for FFA events) and team profiles as well. We've tried to include all the tournament history we could find, and only left out the World Cups (due to complications with our current system) as well as some MKWii events (which we don't have complete history for). If you happen to have reliable records of any event that is missing from our history, feel free to reach out to us! In particular, we're looking for results for IL Seasons 6 and 7—if you have those, that would be great!

If you want to get started exploring the database, you can check it out here! Just scroll down to the newly-added "Pre-MKCentral Tournaments" section and you can begin exploring over a decade of history!

Player and Team Claim Functionality

Since the added history goes back before MKCentral existed, there are many teams and players who have never registered for our site, or, in the case of players, we were unsure of their exact identity (many players have the same name or have gone through alias changes in the past). We call these unregistered players and teams "Shadow Players" and "Shadow Teams", and they are viewable just the same as any other team or player. However, you won't find them in the main team or player lists; you'll only be able to find them by viewing tournament history, or by selecting "View Shadow Players" on the Players List.

That being said, sometimes these shadow teams or players come back, and want to register for MKCentral. Of course, we'd like to include Pre-MKCentral history on active profiles, but if you're reviving an old team or just registering now, you'll by default start with a blank slate. To remedy this, we've introduced a claim system.

To claim a profile, simply visit it while you're logged in. You'll have the option to claim the profile simply by clicking a link. These claims will be reviewed by a moderator first. If approved, all the pre-MKCentral history will now appear on you or your team's profile!

Additionally, if you try to make a new team with the same name as a historical shadow team, you'll be prompted to claim it, or change the name of the team you're trying to create. We do this because we don't allow two teams with the same name, as it has always been.

If you are claiming a profile, please reach out to a site moderator in the #registry-help channel of our site Discord Server. This will make the process easier and faster for us.

Closing Remarks

We've put many hours of time and labor into preparing this database for all to enjoy. What has long been nearly lost in scattered images, files, and websites, is now available to everyone, fully linked and integrated! While we don't have 100% of the data for MK's long history, and some has likely been lost forever, we've worked hard to bring you the best we can. We hope that this database will stay for good and serve the community for years to come. With this, feel free to view the history now!
