With the 4th version of the MKC team rankings, we're taking a bit of a different approach. Rather than doing a stream like in previous seasons, we'll be instead be doing a write-up on this season's happenings below. So without further ado, here are your V4 MKC Power Rankings.

21-25.png

It's pretty common, but we start off this edition of the rankings with many teams who weren't ranked in the previous season in this section. Of these new teams, we start with two teams returning to the top 25 in Dynamite Omega and Black Wolves. Dynamite's second squad gets back in at 25th, participating in both MKU Season 8 and Agility III. Though the Division 3 competition was rough, the highlight for them comes in a win against eventual division contender Xtreme Force. Despite a season they'll be looking to turn around from in Season 9, the competitive matches against tougher competition was seen as more than enough to get a nod for the rankings compared to a few other rivals who may not have been as challenged in Season 8.

Black Wolves are back on our rankings after a bit of a hiatus, and this time they're just a spot higher than last time. Despite not participating in MKU this time, they earned eligibility through Agility III and the Compass Draw. They nearly got a giant win vs Mushroom Team in the Compass Draw, who would eventually go on to achieve the silver medal for the tournament. Though they missed out on a potential top 10 win, they had a nice consolation prize in an upset victory vs Inflow early in Agility III, a team that's only been climbing since their first entry to the rankings alongside BW themselves.

Equivoke debuted at 23rd this season, showing the community that they're down to play every possible event, as they were the only team to do so. As a result there's plenty to talk about here. They started the season off with a memorable run in Division 4 of MKU, putting together a 15-1 record on the season with a lone loss to just Team Rocket, which would be avenged shortly after in the Euro League. The team also put together a solid consolation run in the Americas Cup, that resulted in a victory in the winners side of bracket. Finally, despite a rough start Agility III, they put together in secondary bracket run consisting of victories over Sunset and Special 7, which goes to show plenty of upside. Being one of the most active participants in MKC team events, it's hard not to see more improvement as time passes. Like the first two,

Wii Elite Clan made a return to the ranks after only playing MKU in the previous evaluation period. Though a bit of a fall for the squad since their last appearance, the evaluation period consisted of some wins over Sunset, Special 7, Equivoke, and Version 2. The team definitely got hot around the end of MKU, striking with a timely 4-0 run through the Division 3 playoffs. Given the longevity and storied history of the team, it's hard to not see them having a bit of a resurgence soon.

To finish this section, Pirates of Duisburg place at 21st, resulting in just a fall of one place. Despite a rough MKU season, it's worth noting that the team always came ready to compete in a tough Division 2 this season consisting of many new and returning heavy hitters. Though the season was not the best one for the, a season sweep against a rather highly ranked Arcadia Terra and many close games against high level competition allows the team to not take too much of a fall. It could be likely they find themselves in a new division this upcoming MKU season, and it may be a team that goes under the radar for sure and surprises some people.

Swapping places with PoD, we have Yoshi Family. Despite having a winning record in MKU Division 3 at 9-7, they unfortunately missed the playoffs, coming from one of the most stacked conferences since the beginning of the new divisional formats. In a sense you could say the low MKU placement is a bit misleading as a result; while finishing 13 spots behind eventual division runner-ups Horizon, it's worth noting that they finished the regular season with only one less win. Perhaps what really jumps off the page here is YF's podium finish in the Compass Draw. A pair of wins vs Arcadia Terra and a top 5 win vs High Definition was the highlight of the season, and allowed for a pretty spectacular result that many teams ranked around them would love to have on their own records.

After barely getting on last season, Sunset is clearly making it show that the placement was not a mistake. The team jumps 5 spots up into the top 20 after an impressive string of results. Though they may not have the giant top team win that YF had at 20th, they were one of the most consistent teams of the entire season. If there was a team that they were supposed to beat on paper, it was almost the case. Luckily for them, 10-6 was enough to make the playoffs in one of the most competitive MKU conferences to date, but the season took an unfortunate ending when they came up just 2 points short of eventual division champions Special 7. Perhaps this may be a rivalry in the making moving forward, but given how close they were it would not be shocking anyone if they were to get a multitude of unexpected wins this upcoming season.

Keeping up with the Division 3 theme from last MKU season, Princess Monarchy makes their MKC rankings debut at 18th. A widely recognizable team back in MK8U that even had a brief stint in Division 1, it's not much of a surprise to see them appear. Unlike most of the other teams we've been covering, they were the conference champion on the other side of the division, winning it by a not-close 4 game margin. Though it did not translate into any success in the playoffs, it was still an impressive season that netted them 24th overall in the MKU S8 Standings. Wins over Yoshi Family and Horizon were the highlights of their season.

Special 7 makes their rankings debut as well but at 17th, and to not much surprise as a Division 3 title will generally do that for you. Despite a dominating 15-1 regular season that only had a dropped game to Horizon, they got their redemption with a playoff run that ended in defeating them 2-1 in the finals. Also of note, they had a multitude of wins over every other Division 3 team this season, as well as the recently formed Cherish in Agility III. A new team that immediately jumped off the radar was

Novae. Despite not being formed in time for MKU, they still picked up a handful of wins that suggested they could've competed as a high as Division 2. Wins of note immediately came against Sunset and D3 champs Special 7, as well as a "too close for comfort" type of loss against D1 playoff team, Blizzard. As if that wasn't enough, immediately in Agility III, the team started off with a not very close upset against Mushroom Team, proving any doubt of them was unwarranted. A resume this strong without even playing in MKU is quite impressive, and we're excited to see how they do in Season 9.

Returning for the first time since the first rankings is Arcadia Terra, who finally got the increased activity required to enter more than just MKU, an impressive feat for a secondary squad. Though they had a few losses to teams rated below them early in many tournaments, this usually followed with respectable outings with perhaps bigger wins obtained than otherwise. MKU perhaps may be the best example. After an extremely sluggish 0-5 start to conference play, the rematches at the end of the season went more than better. They finished the season knocking off the top 3 teams in their conference, all of which made the D2 playoffs. This run consisted of World Friend Moon, Dynamite Alpha, and eventual D2 champion Star Clan. When it was all said and done, ARC Terra finished with a respectable 6-10 in the second division. Wins over Inflow and Novae only added to the success the team enjoyed closer to the new year.

Horizon is almost always one of the most interesting teams to follow. Last season they had the highest placement for a major site tournament ever recorded for a team outside the top 20, which showed potential more than anything. This season they skipped the 16-20 range completely, clocking in at 14th this time. Wins over just about every D3 MKU team, Jean-Pierre Pernaut, and a big win vs Euphorya were the big hitters for Hz this season, as they continue to impress with some new achievement each season.

Inflow is another one of those teams that just seemingly gets better every single season. This season consisted of a respectable 7-9 finish in MKU Division 2, getting a few wins over playoff teams such as Dynamite Alpha and DJULO. The activity outside MKU carried on this season, and bolstered their resume as well. These tournaments saw them pull off wins vs D3 champion Special 7, and very notably they also defeated D1 playoff team High Definition to add perhaps their biggest win yet to their resume. With the continued improvement every season, it seems as if the top 10 is more achievable than ever before for them.

Another team making a solid gain this season was World Friend Moon, (+5, not +4 btw) who pulled off a winning record in Division 2 this season and a playoff berth. Though the postseason wasn't great to them, the regular season was a good time indeed, and when adding a top 8 in Agility III to the list of achievements, it's easy to see why they're now on the cusp of making the top 10. Notable wins included Banana Legion, Cherish, and Jean-Pierre Pernaut.

Dynamite Alpha takes the 11th spot this season, being that team that seems almost immune to being upset. A solid season in MKU unfortunately did not translate to playoff success this time, but a 10-1-6 overall record in Division 2 is nothing to scoff at by any means. Dynamite was still able to pick up wins against practically every team ranked near them, showing that the cusp of top 10 is definitely where they belonged in this season. What maybe held them from getting over the hump this time was not getting any giant upset victories. A close 10 point loss to Vertex held them just short of making the Agility III Top 8, which shows the potential is there. This next season simply just becomes about executing in these close, tough matches.

6-10.png

For all the teams who feel they may be at their peak in the 11th-15th range, look no further than the progression of Jean-Pierre Pernaut. JPP has been a consistent top 20 presence since the site has been up, and finally they debut in the Top 10 teams this season. Despite a just alright 8-1-7 regular season record in Division 2 of MKU, it was enough to slide into the playoffs, and they took full advantage of it with a big 100+ point road win vs Dynamite Alpha. Though a title run didn't follow, a top 15 finish in the largest MKU season yet is still quite the achievement. They followed up on the strong finish with another big win vs Euphorya in Agility III, though ultimately they were denied the top 8 finish from World Friend Moon. It was still a great season for the club regardless, and was enough for them to be the only team outside of Division 1 to crack the Top 10 teams of the season.

Mushroom Team Galaxy had an interesting season when it came to amazing heights and worrisome lows. The best of them came in an insane run in the Compass Draw that saw them making the finals. A close win vs Black Wolves got it started, but they took full advantage of it, piling on wins vs Blizzard and Team JBZZ right after. On the unfortunate side for them, they were upset early in Agility III and sent to the amateur bracket by Euphorya, who had also been upset early, which is a pretty crazy turn of events for teams competing at the top of the community. Despite this setback, MT was not challenged at all in the amateur bracket and made the most of a bad situation. A respectable 5-11 finish in MKU Division 1 was the other piece of note, where a big win vs finalist Divine Phoenix solidified their return to the top 10 this season.

Despite a rather forgettable Agility III run, Euphorya Anubis still had a very interesting season that saw a pretty decent finish in MKU. Despite missing the Division 1 playoffs, they were in it right until the final week, and still picked up some wins against Blizzard and rival Spanish teams such as Rozando la Katastrofe and Ink Dragons. Perhaps the most overlooked achievement of the season for them comes from the Euro League, where they sent the MKU champions World Friend Star home deep into the bracket phase. Surely the ability to compete with the top is here for EU, so it should be fun to see what they achieve next.

Though a bit of a down season for Vertex, they had no shortage in top 5 wins, as they picked up a multitude of wins vs teams who made it into the D1 playoffs in Season 8 such as High Definition and Arcadia Sky, but they also took down the defending Division 1 champion team in Divine Phoenix. These kinds of peaks are something we commonly see in vx, as they frequently upset teams at the times least expected by everyone at large. With some more consistency, the team could definitely be making it back to the finals without question in future seasons.

Blizzard perhaps was the team nobody expected to make the Division 1 playoffs before the season, but they did, and almost knocked off the eventual champions, World Friend Star. Season sweeps against Vertex and Rozando la Katastrofe likely got the job done, as well as picking up a win vs High Definition. Though Agility III ended in a forfeit, it's worth noting that they got an upset victory over Team JBZZ as well. All of the top level wins and playoff appearance catapulted Blizzard up the rankings in tremendous fashion, which is quite hard to do once you break into the Top 10. The team got serious discussion regarding the top 5, and despite not quite getting the nod, surely it has to be a relief to break the 11th/12th trend that's been going on since MKC's beginnings. Well done!

1-5.png

The top 5 this season was one of the most competitive ones, as more upsets came from outside the Top 5 than usual for sure. It was also noteworthy since this is the first time our MKU Champion hasn't taken the top spot. But to start, we have Arcadia Sky standing still at #5. The team finally dove into the Americas Cup and defeated long time rival Mushroom Team in the Grand Finals to take home their first official tournament victory, and had a more than solid MKU performance to boot. After getting into the MKU D1 playoffs in Season 7 after some controversy with a dropped team and some following rule changes, ARC proved it was no fluke and that they did indeed belong there. This was quite evident as they started off the season hot, taking down many rival teams, most notably including eventual D1 champion World Friend Star, a team ARC has found themselves playing a lot in MKU over the seasons and not as successfully until their win over them in the first half of the season. Despite not advancing in the bracket, their quarterfinals round loss was a respectable one that came down to the wire, and a top 8 in an always competitive Agility bracket made for a rather impressive season at the end of the day.

Coming in 4th was High Definition, a team getting themselves back into the top 5 after a season out. Despite an extremely lackluster result in the Compass Draw, a team best 3rd place finish in MKU was enough to get them the benefit of the doubt in a close battle for 4th place. The season included a win over Team JBZZ and a pair of wins vs Arcadia Sky. Despite a regular season tie with Divine Phoenix, it wasn't enough to escape a playoff loss to them in the end.

It speaks measures when a podium finish is the low point for an always contending team like Team JBZZ. Despite no major tournament wins this season, a rarity for them, they still had an impressive 15-1 regular season in Division 1, only dropping a single game to High Definition. The playoffs unfortunately not to kind to them, as they fell to eventual champion World Friend Star. Despite the lack of gold trophies this season, it's hard not to like a resume including wins against every single team in the top 10.

World Friend Star had about as much of a storybook finish to the MKU season as you could've drawn up for them. Without a doubt, the 2-1 nail-biter win vs Divine Phoenix was the peak of the team's MK journey to date, and the win in the semifinal vs Team JBZZ was giant also. A close win over High Definition got them to the Winners Final of Agility III, and though they eventually were knocked out by Prestige and Team JBZZ, everything this season made for the most memorable season for the team to date.

Finally, our top team of the season is none other than Prestige, a team new in name but consisting of many community veterans. Despite not being around for the MKU season, they won both the Compass Draw and Agility III, beating everyone in their path and only dropping a singular game to Team JBZZ. All things considered, there wasn't a single other resume that could've been justified being ranked above these two tournament wins this time, so congrats to them for being the top ranked team of the season!
