What is it?
The Pokemon Draft League is very similar to what we’d consider our “UML Series” in which Pokemon are placed into tiers, and players draw teams in snake order, limiting how many Pokemon you’re able to draft from each tier. After all the teams are drafted, entrants will have 1 week to have their team built and ready for the matches, which will be a swiss style pools into only 8 players making the final bracket. This entire tournament will be played in-game of Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield.
When is this happening?
Our projected date would be starting July 12th, and it would be made so that it doesn’t interfere with any sort of Mario Kart Event going on. The projected time currently would be 4:30pm EDT, if that’s to change, we’ll be sure to push out updates.
How will drafting work?
Drafting will be ran with restrictions on what pokemon you can take from each tier… as listed below
1 Gigantamax Pokemon: This is the only pokemon that you are able to Dynamax in the game, no other pokemon. You may only select pokemon from this list that are able to Gigantamax
2 S-Ranked Pokemon: This will be any 2 pokemon that is available from Smogon’s OU Tier
3 A-Ranked Pokemon: This will be any 3 pokemon that is available from either Smogon’s UU Tier or Smogon’s UUBL Tier
2 B-Ranked Pokemon: This will be any 2 pokemon that are available from Smogon’s RU Tier
2 C-Ranked Pokemon: This will be any 2 pokemon that are available from Smogon’s NU Tier as well as pokemon that are available in Smogon’s PU Tier
Once signups are closed, we will randomize all players into a swiss style pool, in which only the top 8 players will advance to the final bracket (This may change if we have a large amount of entrants). Every match will be Best of 1, and the final bracket will be Double Elimination. Whoever wins the final bracket will be crowned the champion.
Signups will run until July 4th, and the draft will be July 5th, so that players have one week to get their team prepared.
