MKU Season 16 is right around the corner. For those who have not seen, we recently polled the community on what the future of MKU should be, which you can find the results of here. To save you time — rather than running the Promotion/Relegation format as we did in Season 15, we will be reverting to the eight-team conference format used in many seasons up to this point.

Under conference format, divisions are made up of eight teams. All eight teams are split into two conferences, with each conference consisting of four teams each. The first five weeks of the season will be designated for Interconference and Intraconference play, where teams will play matches against teams in their conference as well as teams in the opposing conference. After week five, the two conference winners, along with the top two wild-card teams, advance to the playoffs until a champion is crowned two weeks later.

There is not much else to note, especially since we are not looking to make an abundance of changes, however, between now and the time we released the results of the community feedback, we have decided to make a quick alteration to the way playoffs function. For this season, rather than letting the superior conference winner choose their opponent, we'll simply be reverting back to the playoff system we had in place during Season 12. The MKU Ruleset (including translations) have been updated to reflect these changes, and you may expand the spoiler below to see:

a. If two teams make playoffs from the same conference, it will be seeded as A1 vs B2, and B1 vs A2. If 3 teams from the same conference make playoffs (and only 1 from the other conference), then fixtures are A1 vs A3 and B1 vs A2 or B1 vs B3 and A1 vs B2.

Player & Team Registration

Team registrations, as well as the player registration/transfer deadline
, will be open from now until November 19 @ 23:59:59 PM UTC. You can register your team on the MKU tournament page, listed on the MKC Tournament Listing, and linked below. As always, only team leaders or managers can sign their team up for the season, and they will also be the ones to receive the Team Representative role in the MKU Discord server, so make sure that everyone is accounted for in the server.

Additional Information

As we preface each season, it would be really helpful if we had access to each team's war results, as it allows us to better understand where teams stand to create the most balanced divisions possible. Even having just one member from the MKU Staff team in a server to collect results is beneficial, although not required, so if this is something you would rather not do then do not worry.

Also, just as a reminder, any players who are registered for a team but do not plan to play in any matches (or do not want to be considered for seedings) are encouraged to opt-out. To opt-out, simply go to the tournament page, and from there, if your team has already signed up, you should see an option to opt-out. If you opt-out and want to opt-back-in you just repeat the process.

The season will start on November 28, 2021. Given that the season will run through Christmas, we will be having a weekend break (no matches on December 26). The season will continue the following weekend and will finish on January 16, 2022.
