For the second year in a row, we'll be bringing back The Summer Underground Mario Kart League! If you're unaware to what UML is, it's a format where captains select players from a pool to build their "dream team" in hopes of defeating the teams they're playing against.
Overview
Like last summer, we will be splitting the event between the Americas and Europe. The two events will run during the same time period and follow the same schedule. The European matches will take place on Fridays at 21:00 CEST, while the American matches will take place on Fridays at 9:00 PM EDT.
Teams will likely consist of 10 players, but this may be subject to change depending on the number of sign-ups. The draft will work similarly to last year, where the captain selects players throughout the draft in snake format.
Organization
Organization for both the European and American UMLs will take place in the Summer UML 2021 Discord, which you can join here. Everything regarding announcements, the draft, and organization will take place in this server.
Eligibility
You can only participate for the UML in the region you live in. For example, if you're a citizen of both Mexico and a European country but live in Mexico, you can only play the American UML. We are also requiring all participants to have played at least one Mario Kart Central tournament previously. This will hopefully reduce the number of inactive team members and drops.
Dates + Format
The format for the event will be groups into a double elimination bracket. There will be one match a week during the groups phase, and then multiple matches per week during the bracket phase. The first date for matches will be on June 25th, and the Grand Finals for the bracket phase will be July 30th. It's important to note that the end date is subject to change depending on the amount of signups.
Draft
The draft will take place the week before at the same time matches take place for your region. It's important to note the draft date is subject to change depending on the captain's availability. The draft will take place on June 18th, live on the MKCentral Twitch! Selected captains will be notified beforehand and will have to provide a team name and tag for their team to use throughout the event. If you'd like to be considered for a captain spot, mark yourself as a host on the tournament signup.
