Hey all, we have a lot of news regarding the site, so make sure to read the thread in full. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message a staff member.

Updated Tiebreaker Rules
As the tournaments we host are getting larger and larger, tiebreaker races are becoming more common. A lot of the time, this ends up extending the wait time between rounds (for example, it took 20 minutes for a tiebreaker race to be played during the latest Early 2v2 FFA). As a result, we've decided to adjust the tiebreaker race rule to completely remove tiebreaker races in the earlier rounds. The rules depend on whether it's a Solo Event (FFA) or a Squad Event (2v2,3v3,4v4). You can read the updated rules below:
In the event that two players tie, the following criteria will be used to determine who advances to the next round:
i. If one of the tied players is the host of the room, they will automatically advance.
ii. Otherwise, the player who registered for the tournament first will advance.
In the event that two teams tie, the following criteria will be used to determine who advances to the next round:
i. The team with the player who scored the most points will advance. For example if two teams are tied with 100 points, but one team has 55 + 45 while the other has 52 + 48, the team with the player who scored 55 points in the room will advance.
ii. If one of the tied team is listed as a host, they will automatically advance.
iii. If the previous two requirements are tied, the team who registered for the tournament first will advance.
As you've noticed, being a host is one of the major tiebreakers listed. This is to encourage more people to host (only if you have a stable + reliable internet connection), as we've been seeing a hosting shortage for all of our recent tournaments. These rules will take effect immediately, starting with the Cyber Speedway 2v2 next Saturday. These new tiebreaker rules are no longer in effect once the Quarterfinal round starts, and all ties will be determined with a 1 race tiebreaker then.

Tournament Payouts
We've updated the policy regarding the handout of prizes. We will no longer be handing out eShop gift cards as prizes for events, and instead will only be using PayPal to hand out prizes to winners. The main reasoning for this is that it's very difficult to get eShop gift cards from various different nations, as we have to rely on third party services to provide valid codes (which we can't always be 100% certain of), and these sites often charge a hefty fee on top of the prize of the gift card. Additionally, PayPal gives the winner more freedom in what they want to spend their winnings on, instead of just being forced to use it on something Nintendo related.
If you don't have a PayPal account at the time of winning, that's completely fine! Our new policy gives winners up to 1 year after the event to claim their prize. For the exact policy, read below:
Players must have a valid PayPal address to send money to in order to receive their prize. Players have 12 months since the end of the event to claim their prize; after that, MKCentral reserves the right to keep any prize money.

Summer Supporter Discount!
We're happy to announce that Site Supporter is going to be $6 USD for the next month! If you want to support the work MKCentral has been doing for almost 2 years, purchasing Site Supporter is the best way to do that. 100% of the funds given from purchasing Site Supporter go towards the site, and helps cover server costs, software licenses, more tournament prizes, or other site related costs. Along with helping out with all of this, site supporters get lots of benefits! Some of these benefits include: no ads, a green name on the site + in the MKCentral Discord, 5 extra themes on the Registry, and the ability to set a custom status!
The discount will be running from now until July 12th, so make sure to get it when you can! We're extremely thankful to everyone who has supported the site, as without your help it would be impossible to keep the site alive and running.

Other Info + Name Change Policy
We're going to be updating the name change policy in terms of the Registry. Non-Site Supporters will only be able to change their registry name once every 6 months, instead of once every 12 weeks. Site Supporters will still be able to change their Forum + Registry names once every 12 weeks.

Besides that, that's all the news we have to share for now! We hope you consider purchasing Site Supporter while it's discounted at this time, and we just want to thank all of you for the tremendous support recently! The community has been growing at such a rapid rate since the start of the year, which wouldn't be possible without you! Don't forget that the Cyber Speedway 2v2 FFA is taking place next Saturday, so if you're looking for something to play, why not take a shot at a $500 prize pool?

Thanks for your non-stop support,
MKCentral Staff
