Welcome to Mario Kart Central! If you’re new here, this guide will introduce you to what goes down in the Mario Kart community, and how to get involved yourself!
Communication
When it comes to the community, tournaments, and other events, most activity takes place on Discord, a free text and voice chat app. Whether you're looking for a “war” (the name given to team matches) or looking for members to join your team, it’s all done through Discord, especially in the MKCentral Server. Make sure to introduce yourself in the "say hi and ask questions" channel found in our Discord server, and a staff member will assist you with any questions that you may have. The MKC Discord server is the hub for anything related to this site, including announcements and updates. It's also a great place to meet new players and find a team. If you’re wanting to get involved in the MK community, make sure to set up a Discord account and join the MKCentral server.
Event Formats
All matches and events are 12 races long per round unless otherwise stated by the event organizers. There are multiple formats when it comes to league matches and friendlies, including:
- Clan Wars: Two teams face off in 5v5 or 6v6 format (the latter being more popular), and aim to score the most points.
- Solo Free-for-alls/FFAs: Individual events were teaming is prohibited. Also known as simply an FFA.
- Mogis: Also known as Squad events, where multiple smaller teams face off. Examples include 4v4v4 (3 teams of 4) and 3v3v3v3 (4 teams of 3). A 4v4v4 event would also be known as a 4v4 FFA.
- Time Trials: Competition for time trials is promoted, but not hosted directly on MKCentral. Check out MKLeaderboards to get involved in the Time Trial scene.
MKCentral holds a plethora of events for multiple Mario Kart games. You can check them out on our Tournaments Page. We're constantly adding new events, so be sure to check there often. Here are some of our most popular events:
Free-For-Alls
Free-for-all tournaments are a great way to get started playing tournaments on MKCentral. In each event, you join a room of players and aim to be in the top portion of the group. The top few advance to the next round, and the goal is to make it as far as you can. Depending on the event, you may play on your own, or as squads of 2, 3, or 4 players. Free-for-all tournaments are held for multiple game modes, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 150cc and 200cc, and also Mario Kart Tour. To see upcoming tournaments, check by the Tournaments Page.
Mario Kart Universal - MKU
MKU is the largest team event in all of MK8D. Teams and players from all around the world compete in a 10 week season with divisions of 12 teams each. Matches take place at 2 and 3 p.m. EDT/EST on Sundays. MKU is generally considered the biggest attraction to MKCentral.
If you’re a new player and want to get involved in MKU, aim for a lower division (higher numbers = lower division: D10 is a low division while D1 is the highest division). Newer players typically don’t have the same skill as people who have been playing for years, so aiming for a lower division will make your time in MKU a lot more enjoyable.
Amplify
Amplify is a popular team event run once or twice a year. Teams face off in group stage matches and then compete in either the amateur or premier elimination bracket, depending on group stage standings. Amplify is one of the biggest team-format tournaments on MKCentral.
Agility
Agility is a short team event focused on a double-elimination knockout bracket. To quicken things up, the first few rounds are 8 races long each, while the later rounds are the regular 12 races. Agility is another popular team tournament and you can register for it on the Tournaments Page whenever a season is soon to start.
Regional Leagues
EuroLeague
EuroLeague is aimed towards European based teams, with matches taking place at 9 p.m. CEST/CET on Fridays. It follows an advanced swiss format (teams with the same records play each other) into a bracket, where the winner is crowned.
Americas Cup
Americas Cup is a tournament for teams in North and South America, where matches take place at 9 p.m. EDT/EST on Fridays. It follows a groups into bracket format, as well as including a amateur bracket.
Closing Remarks
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to message a site staff member or a staff member of the league you have questions for. Having a better understanding of what exactly to do will help you get involved in the community a lot more, and we hope to see you all on the track!
