Information

It's been over a year since the last one! Overdrive is back for 2024! 200L: Overdrive is a bracket-style tournament for 200cc. It was first hosted in August 2020 and has become a staple tournament between our main league tournaments. This event will be a double elimination bracket (We are doing a Swiss format for the first 2 weeks and a premier/consolation bracket for last 4 weeks), meaning that teams who lose twice will be eliminated from the tournament.

Unlike the previous seasons, we'll be implementing two new changes for this edition for Overdrive:
  1. We'll be seeding all teams in a swiss bracket before a premier and consolation double elimination bracket.
  2. We're introducing track bans to the tournament! Track bans will run exactly how they're done for MKCentral Paradigm tournaments. For those who are unfamiliar with how the track ban system works, please read the Track Ban Etiquette section below.

Step 1. Protecting Tracks

The first step of every match, teams will decide on which two tracks they wish to protect from being banned by the opposing team. The away/non-hosting team will go first, with the home/hosting team following suit.

Step2. Banning Tracks

Next, teams will decide on which tracks they wish to ban. Teams will need to ban five tracks in total and must declare them to the opposing team all at once (i.e. in one message). Teams are unable to ban tracks that were protected by the opposing team. Unlike the previous step, the home/hosting team will go first, with the away/non-hosting team following suit.

Step 3. Playing the Match

Once teams complete these steps, the match may begin with a grand total of ten tracks being unable to be selected by either team. Teams who pick a banned track will receive a -40 point penalty. Additionally, while we strongly discourage teams from picking the random track option due to its unpredictable nature, there will be no penalty if the random roulette selects a banned track.

Due to the nature of how many matches are going to be played in this tournament, we want coordinating track bans between teams to be a relatively quick and painless process. We highly encourage teams to contact each other ahead of their scheduled match time and be clear and concise when declaring tracks to the opposing team. Additionally, when contacting other teams, please use Discord threads within the 200L Discord server, instead of private DMs, so staff can better regulate the tournament; a reminder to ping both your team's role and your opponents role so that all reps may be added into the thread.
We will be creating channels for each group & both bracket stages before the tournament starts.

Match Times & Dates

Like Overdrive IV, we are asking that teams be ready to play at both 3:00 and 4:00 PM EDT (21:00 and 22:00 CEST) respectively on Saturdays. Each bracket match comes with a scheduled date on the Challonge bracket when it is made available, so be sure to look out for its release in the 200L Discord server, linked at the top of this thread.

The tournament will begin on August 24th and is tentatively expected to run until September 28th. Please note that the end date is not final and is subject to change depending on the number of teams who sign up.

Ruleset

Similar to all other tournaments hosted on Mario Kart Central, 200L: Overdrive V will utilize the MKCentral Universal Ruleset, which can be found here. You can also find it in Spanish, French, and German.
Since this tournament features track bans, some modifications to the MKCentral Universal Rule Set are in order, which you can view below:

  • For every match, each team is allowed to ban five tracks from being selected. Each team is also allowed to protect two tracks from being banned by the opposing team. In total, ten tracks will be unable to be selected by either team. As always, track bans and protections are reset after every match.
  • Teams that accidentally pick a banned track will receive no penalty. However, If the track roulette lands on a banned track, the team that picked it will receive a -40 point penalty, instead of the usual -20 point penalty.
  • If a team fails to provide the tracks they wish to ban and/or protect for a particular match, then that team will have no bans and/or protects for that match (i.e. no additional penalty).
  • Teams must follow the proper order in which tracks are banned and protected.
    • Away Team Protects
    • Home Team Protects
    • Home Team Bans
    • Away Team Bans

Teams are not allowed to change their list of banned tracks once their match begins.

Registration Deadline

Teams have until August 21, 2024 @ 23:59:59 PM UTC to register and make any necessary player transfers/registrations for 200L Overdrive V. Any player transferred onto a registered team after this deadline will be ineligible to play 200L: Overdrive V.

We will be releasing a tentative schedule soon, so be sure to join the 200L Discord server.

Thank you,
200L Staff
