Welcome to Mario Kart Central! If you’re new here, this guide will introduce you to what goes down in the Mario Kart community, and how to get involved yourself!
When it comes to the community, tournaments, and other events, most activity takes place on Discord, a free text and voice chat app. Whether you're looking for a “war” (the name given to team matches) or looking for members to join your team, it’s all done through Discord, especially in the MKCentral Server. Make sure to introduce yourself in the "say hi and ask questions" channel found in our Discord server, and a staff member will assist you with any questions that you may have. The MKC Discord server is the hub for anything related to this site, including announcements and updates. It's also a great place to meet new players and find a team. If you’re wanting to get involved in the MK community, make sure to set up a Discord account and join the MKCentral server.
All matches and events are 12 races long per round unless otherwise stated by the event organizers. There are multiple formats when it comes to league matches and friendlies, including:
- Clan Wars: Two teams face off in 5v5 or 6v6 format (the latter being more popular), and aim to score the most points.
- Mogis: Multiple smaller teams face off. Examples include 4v4v4 (3 teams of 4) and 3v3v3v3 (4 teams of 3).
- Free-for-alls/FFAs: Individual events were teaming is prohibited. The MKC Solo Circuit is one such event.
- Time Trials: Competition for time trials is promoted, but not hosted directly on MKCentral. Check out MKLeaderboards to get involved in the Time Trial scene.
MKCentral hosts the most events for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! Here are a few regular events that you may want to join:
The Solo Circuit is a great place for new players to get started. It consists of multiple free-for-all events held throughout the year, either in 150cc or 200cc mode. In each event, you join a room of players and aim to be in the top portion of the group. The top few advance to the next round, and the goal is to make it as far as you can. At the end of the year, the players with the best overall scores participate in a final invitational tournament, typically with a prize for the winner.
Mario Kart Universal - MKU
MKU is the largest team event in all of MK8D. Teams and players from all around the world compete in a 10 week season with divisions of 12 teams each. Matches take place at 2 and 3 p.m. EDT/EST on Sundays. MKU is generally considered the biggest attraction to MKCentral.
If you’re a new player and want to get involved in MKU, aim for a lower division (higher numbers = lower division: D10 is a low division while D1 is the highest division). Newer players typically don’t have the same skill as people who have been playing for years, so aiming for a lower division will make your time in MKU a lot more enjoyable.
Amplify is a popular team event run twice a year. Teams face off in group stage matches and then compete in either the amateur or premier elimination bracket, depending on group stage standings. Amplify is a Saturday event, complementing MKU, which takes place on Sundays. For more information, head to the official Amplify website.
EuroLeague is aimed towards European based teams, with matches taking place at 9 p.m. CEST/CET on Fridays. It follows an advanced swiss format (teams with the same records play each other) into a bracket, where the winner is crowned.
Americas Cup is a tournament for teams in North and South America, where matches take place at 9 p.m. EDT/EST on Fridays. It follows a groups into bracket format, as well as including a amateur bracket.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to message a site staff member or a staff member of the league you have questions for. Having a better understanding of what exactly to do will help you get involved in the community a lot more, and we hope to see you all on the track!
