IntroductionYou asked, and we listened! 100 Point Cup is finally here! Being the most requested tournament in recent history, we hope that 100 Point Cup will be a great kick-starter to an awesome summer season.
Note: This tournament will be run within the MKCentral Discord Server, so be sure to get the 100 Point Cup role by clicking the reaction in the #tournament-roles channel to get the latest tournament information. You will also gain access to the accompanying chats designated for this tournament.
Rules
What is 100 Point Cup? Well, the premise is simple: the team that has a player score 100 points first wins the match. To allow such a feat to happen in a reasonable timeframe, some modifications to the MKCentral Universal Ruleset (which can be found here) are in order, which you can see below:
- Instead of the usual 12 race matches, teams will continue to play until a player has scored 100 points.
- Hosts must set the room to 24 races and then close the room as soon as a player has scored 100 points.
- If there's a tie on who scores 100 points first, the player with the higher points wins. If there's an exact tie, another race is played to determine the winning team.
100 Point Cup is a 2-stage tournament. The tournament will last for 2 weeks (4 days in total). Below is a brief overview of the tournament structure. The tournament will be capped at 64 squads to allow the brackets to run smoothly.
STAGE 1 - Group Stage
Stage 1 will be 16 Round Robin pools with 4 squads each. Over the course of the first weekend, squads will face off against the three other squads in their group. Compared to other tournaments on MKCentral, squads will play all three matches. The two squads with the higher Group Stage score will advance to the Premier Bracket. Likewise, the two squads with the lower Group Stage score will be regulated to the Consolation Bracket.
STAGE 2 - Single-Elimination Bracket Stage
Stage 2 will be a single-elimination bracket. Over the course of the second weekend, squads will face off against other squads based on their seeding. Teams eliminated in this stage are eliminated from the bracket and therefore, eliminated from the tournament. This stage is winner-takes-all, and the winner of the Premier Bracket will be declared the winner. All matches, including the Finals, are Best of 1.
